If a child is familiar with performing addition tasks with mathildr and can solve some of them already mentally, it is recommended to start with subtraction. The subtraction tasks are written on a piece of paper or in a workbook. Make sure that the visibility of the minus button (bird) is turned on. The first number of a minus task is called minuend. Ask the child to place cherries in the ten-slot field according to the minuend. The second number of the minus task is called the subtrahend. This indicates how often the minus button should be pressed. The bird flies off and “eats” the cherries. Only the cherry pit and stalk remain. The number display shows the minus task. Check together whether the task in the number display corresponds to the task on paper. Then check how many cherries remain in the ten-slot field. Write down the result.
By the way: You have the choice whether the bird eats one cherry per flight or several. Tap the button several times in a row so that the bird eats several cherries at once.
Example task 4-2
Four red cherries are placed in the ten-slot field. Now press the minus button twice in a row. The bird flies over the field, 2 red cherries remain. The 2 is written down as the result.
